CETLs bidding process
The proposal to create Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning was first announced in the Government's White Paper 'The future of higher education' in 2003. In January 2004 HEFCE published an invitation to bid for funding (HEFCE 2004/05) for recurrent and capital funds to establish CETLs.
Bids were invited from both HEFCE-funded higher education institutions and directly HEFCE-funded further education colleges with at least 500 full-time equivalent higher education students. The funding competition had two stages: the deadline for submission of stage one bids was 23 April 2004. The deadline for stage two bids was 29 October 2004.
Stage one outcomes
259 eligible bids were received from 126 different institutions. The bids spanned all the main subject areas (as defined in the Joint Academic Coding System) and a wide range of thematic topics in learning and teaching. 106 bids, of which 24 are collaborative bids, were selected to proceed to stage two of the bidding process.
The list of bids proceeding to stage two is available.
