HEFCE welcomes the Lambert Review

The Higher Education Funding Council for England has welcomed proposals in the Lambert Review (see note 1), which will open up new opportunities for higher education and business.

Sir Howard Newby, Chief Executive of the Higher Education Funding Council for England, said:

'We welcome this review, which fully recognises the substantial progress universities and colleges have made in strengthening collaborations with business. If the country is to benefit fully from the many innovative ideas and expertise emanating from universities then, as the review demonstrates, it is essential that business rises to the challenge of exploiting these links still further.

'We warmly welcome the recognition that increased public funding has a major part to play in encouraging the further growth of university/business collaboration. We fully support the proposal for a permanent and substantial growth of 'third stream' funding for higher education, which will build on the success of the HE Innovation Fund.'
