HEFCE welcomes the publication of performance indicators in higher education
HEFCE has welcomed the publication of 'Performance Indicators in Higher Education in the UK 2002/03'. The indicators, published each year formerly by HEFCE and now by the Higher Education Statistics Agency, provide comparative data on the performance of universities and colleges in widening participation, student retention, learning and teaching outcomes and research outcomes.
John Rushforth, Director (Widening Participation) said:
'We welcome the encouraging results in the report for both non-completion rates and widening participation. Trends in comparison with previous years, however, have to be treated with caution because of changes in classification and methods for capturing the data. We need to wait for next year's figures before we can be sure that the trends are moving in the right direction.'
'Performance Indicators in Higher Education in the UK 2002/03' is published by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA).
