The Secretary of State for Education and Skills has set out the funding to be made available for higher education for 2006-07 in the annual grant letter [Adobe PDF 288K] to David Young, Chairman of HEFCE, issued on 31 January 2006. Subject to confirmation in February, the Board decided to distribute £6,706 million for academic year 2006-07. Of this total, the Board provisionally agreed to allocate:

  • £4,228 million for teaching, representing an overall increase of 6.7 per cent compared to 2005-06 including funds for growth in student numbers. Within this, funding for widening participation increases to £332 million from £284 million in 2005-06, representing a 17 per cent increase
