Improvements to quality information and the Teaching Quality Information web-site
Following the second phase of a review of quality assurance, HEFCE has published a report (HEFCE 2006/45) and a circular letter setting out proposals to improve information on the quality of learning and teaching in higher education, and inviting comments.
The suggested changes include:
- no longer publishing qualitative information, including external examiners' reports, on the Teaching Quality Information (TQI) web-site
- sharing external examiners' reports, as a matter of course, with student representatives
- improvements to subject classifications used on the TQI site
- lowering the threshold for publishing results of the National Student Survey (NSS), to increase the amount of information available.
The improvements follow recommendations by the Quality Assurance Framework Review Group, chaired by Dame Sandra Burslem, which looked at the public information aspects of the quality assurance framework - the TQI and NSS.
Prospective students will find it easier to access the information they need on teaching quality at universities and colleges following changes to the structure and functionality of the TQI web-site from next year. The improved site will be re-launched in partnership with UCAS.
