2003 - 2005 special funding programme: Improving provision for disabled students
HEFCE published 'Improving provision for disabled students: HEFCE strategy and invitation to bid for funds for 2003-05' (HEFCE 02/21) in April 2002. Following a two stage bidding process, we funded 54 projects:
- Strand one
31 projects to improve provision in small and/or specialist institutions with little provision for, or experience in supporting, students with disabilities. We distributed £2.68m in this strand.

23 projects to develop and disseminate resources relating to the learning and teaching of disabled students. Projects were expected to have a sector-wide impact and £2.8m was allocated to this strand.

Projects were funded from January 2003 to December 2005.
HEFCE also supported a mapping exercise of resources related to the learning and teaching of disabled students, carried out by the Open University with Coventry University and the University of Dundee.
