Mapping the English HE system

The Interim Regulatory Partnership Group (IRPG) commissioned a project to prepare for the introduction of new funding and regulatory arrangements for English HE.

The main objectives of the project were to:

  • develop a view of the current HE system which reflected the positions occupied by different organisations, such as regulators, relevant non-statutory sector bodies, funders, students and HE providers
  • identify the impact of the changes in funding and regulatory arrangements, including areas of duplication, potential gaps and ambiguities in the current system, and the implications of those changes.

Timeline

  • March 2012 –after a programme of interviews, stakeholder workshops and validation by stakeholders, output was presented to the IRPG meeting on 23 March 2012.
  • 17 May 2012 –An event was held in Birmingham, bringing together senior staff from the partner organisations, the National Union of Students, and HE providers to review the project output and discuss how the regulatory framework would need to develop in the emerging funding environment.

Stakeholders

The project has engaged with a wide range of stakeholders, many of whom are represented on the project steering group.
