Hugh Ross

Biography and registered interests

Hugh Ross has extensive experience as a manager in the NHS. His 34-year career included three NHS Trust Chief Executive Appointments and two major strategic planning roles. He was the Chief Executive of the United Bristol Healthcare NHS Trust from 1995 to 2002, steering the Trust successfully through very difficult circumstances. He subsequently led the Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust, one of the biggest in the UK, from 2004 through to its abolition in 2009 as part of the reorganisation of NHS Wales.

In addition to these senior roles, Hugh has contributed to healthcare on a national basis over many years. His membership at different times of the Clinical Outcomes Group, the NHS Modernisation Board and the Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence all reflect his career- long interest in clinical quality and outcomes, improved service design and the appropriate regulation of healthcare professionals.

He has now left the NHS to pursue new opportunities to add experience and value in health and the public sector more generally. He is a Non-Executive Director of the NHS Bristol Community Health Services Social Enterprise, member of the HSDR HDR Commissioning Board, and a Director of the Hehir-Ross Partnership.
