Tim Melville-Ross joined the Board in January 2008. He was appointed by the Minister of State for Lifelong Learning, Further and Higher Education to serve as Chair until December 2010 and re-appointed for a further three years to December 2013.
Until joining HEFCE, Tim Melville-Ross chaired the Council of the University of Essex and continues to chair a number of companies. In addition, he is a member of the Institute of Business Ethics Advisory Council and recently chaired Investors in People UK. Previously, he was the Chief Executive of the Nationwide Building Society and Director General of the Institute of Directors.
Tim's home is in London. As well as family commitments, his interests include tennis and bridge. He was awarded the CBE in 2005 for services to workplace learning and development.
