Biography and registered interests

Heather Fry joined HEFCE in November 2008 as Head of Learning and Teaching. She became Director in April 2010. In this role she has responsibility for HEFCE's work in learning and teaching, widening participation and, since April 2012, the collective student interest. She also has other responsibilities, including for HEFCE’s links with JISC. 

Heather started her career teaching and lecturing in Nigeria. She then took up an academic post at the Institute of Education, University of London, where she worked for some years in the Centre for Higher Education Studies, subsequently joining the Bart’s and London School of Medicine and Dentistry at Queen Mary, University of London.  Prior to joining HEFCE Heather was Head of the Centre for Educational Development at Imperial College London.  She has published and researched extensively in higher education policy and teaching and learning in higher and professional education.
