How do we relate to these organisations?
We relate to these organisations, their constitutions and business models in different ways.
In their corporate governance and operational management, funded organisations are entirely independent of HEFCE.
If HEFCE funds an organisation (through a grant or contract), this does not make it a ‘public body’. Other factors will affect its status such as its legal basis and ownership.
Such organisations meet certain accountability requirements in return for the public funding provided to them.
These arrangements will normally be described in a funding agreement, service-level agreement or contract.
Which organisations do we fund in this way?
The list of organisations we fund in this way includes:
- Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education
- Higher Education Academy
- Leadership Foundation for Higher Education
- Higher Education Statistics Agency
Contracts and funding agreements for the 2015-16 academic year with some key organisations (receiving over £1 million in HEFCE funding) are listed below.
We also work with, and support, a number of other organisations not shown here which are funded to deliver work other than teaching or research.
