Professor Malcolm Grant

Malcolm Grant is a New Zealander and read law at Otago University. His academic career has included posts at Southampton University, UCL and Cambridge University, and then as President and Provost of UCL from 2002. Professor Grant is a barrister and an environmental lawyer, and he has held a variety of public appointments, including as Chairman of the Local Government Commission for England, and the Agriculture and Environment Biotechnology Commission. He is a UK Business Ambassador. He lives in London.

Professor Grant has written widely on topics including planning, property, and environmental law and the regulation of biotechnology. He is a member of the Bench of Middle Temple, and an honorary member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and of the Royal Town Planning Institute. He was awarded the CBE in 2003 for services to planning law and local government.

Date appointed to the Board: 1 December 2008 for three years
