Quality assurance and professional bodies
As with all subjects, the quality of health and social care education is assured through a range of internal and external processes. These include:
| Process | Undertaken by |
|---|---|
| Internal quality assurance processes | The university or college, including external examiners, and internal validation and review of programmes |
| Institutional-level quality review | Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) |
| Professional accreditation | Professional and statutory bodies |
| Research assessment | Funding bodies using peer review - the Research Assessment Exercise |
Undergraduate medical and dental programmes in medical and dental schools are approved by the General Medical Council (GMC) and the General Dental Council (GDC) respectively. The GMC and GDC also license doctors and dentists to practise in the UK.
