The timeline below provides an overview of what information alternative providers are expected to submit and by when on an annual basis. This is a general guide. Publications, letters and other communications will specify actual requirements and timings. Alternative providers should contact organisations directly to confirm what they need to submit. Dates for 2018 are still to be confirmed. This timeline will be updated as dates become available.

HESA AP Student Collection

Compulsory for all alternative providers with institutional or specific course designation based in England.

Full data collection system available.

The full functionality for the collection database opens on the data collection system. This gives providers the opportunity to test files against the full range of quality rules ahead of the return date deadline.

Providers may wish to refer to HEFCE's circular letter about the 2016-17 HESA AP data checking tool and the timescale for the outputs generated by HEFCE to verify providers' data submissions.

NSS

Update of Unistats, including new 2017 NSS dataset.

Data that was signed-off by 24 August 2017 will be published on the Unistats website on 4 September 2017 for prospective students to view.

Unistats

Compulsory for all alternative providers with institutional or specific course designation based in England.

System reopens for updates.

Providers are required to make updates to the Unistats return if data regarding their courses changes. The Unistats website will be updated on Wednesdays, incorporating signed-off data received by HEFCE/HESA by 12pm on the preceding Tuesday.

24 July 2017 - 5 September 2017

Specific Course Designation - Annual return

Compulsory for all alternative providers with institutional or specific course designation, or designation for Disabled Students' Allowances (DSA) only.

Deadline for submission of annual returns for course designation for 2018-19.

Compulsory for all alternative providers with institutional or specific course designation based in England.

Control panel opens for January online survey.

Providers must register to use system.

Deadline for submission.

Providers are advised to send and commit complete data that has passed exception stage validation.

HESA AP Student Collection

Compulsory for all alternative providers with institutional or specific course designation based in England.

Data verification begins.

This is an iterative process during which providers may need to submit, commit, review and decommit their data several times to ensure the final submission is credible.

November 2017

Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE)

Compulsory for all alternative providers with institutional or specific course designation based in England.

Providers can validate data locally using the validation kit.

The validation kit enables HE providers to test their data locally against Business stage validation ahead of the main collection opening in the Spring. HE providers are strongly encouraged to use the validation kit as part of their data preparations.

November 2017

SLC

Compulsory for all alternative providers with specific course designation.

Courses are uploaded to the SLC system for the next academic year.

Providers should complete the data spreadsheets sent to them by SLC. 

8 November 2017 - 5 March 2018

Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE)

Compulsory for all alternative providers with institutional or specific course designation based in England.

Contact period.

HE providers are required to make contact with all graduates in the January DLHE population (leavers between 1 January 2017 and 31 July 2017).

Mid-November 2017

HEAPES return

Compulsory for all alternative providers with institutional course designation or providers with specific course designation who are subject to a Student Number Control (SNC). 

Workbooks issued to providers via the HEFCE extranet. 

28 November 2017

HESA AP Student Collection 

Compulsory for all alternative providers with institutional or specific course designation based in England.

Data verification closes.
