How to get to Nicholson House

By rail

The nearest stations are Bristol Parkway (0.6 miles) and Filton Abbey Wood (0.9 miles). Trains from London Paddington take around 1 hour 30 minutes to Bristol Parkway. 

Please note: there are no taxi stands at Filton Abbey Wood so transport would need to be pre-booked.

By road

Leave the M4 at junction 19 and take the M32 southbound. At junction 1, take the A4174 exit to Ring Road.

At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Filton Road/A4174. Continue along Filton Road for 1.3 miles.

At the roundabout, take the 4th exit onto Great Stoke Way. Continue for 0.1 miles.

At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Fox Den Road. Continue for 0.1 miles.

At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Lime Kiln Close 

By bus

From Bristol City Centre to Nicholson House:

How to get to Finlaison House

By bus

Bus routes 8, 17, 25, 45, 46, 242, 341, 521 and N8 pass Chancery Lane Station.

By London Underground

The nearest London Underground station is Chancery Lane (Central Line), 5 minutes’ walk away.

From Paddington take the Bakerloo Line southbound (5 stops) to Oxford Circus, then take the Central Line eastbound (3 stops) to Chancery Lane. Leave the station at exit 4.

Car parking

There is no on-site car parking. The nearest NCP car parks are:

  • Shower facilities are on the lower ground floor

Access for visitors with limited mobility

  • The office is on the 2nd floor but there are lifts which are wheelchair accessible
  • Toilets are accessible

Visiting HEFCE

All visitors should report to Nicholson House when they arrive, where they will be asked to sign in.

A host member of staff will collect them from reception, and inform them of relevant visitor information, including evacuation procedures, fire exits and facilities.

The member of staff will return their pass and sign them out of the visitor log when they leave. 

Evacuation procedures

Visitors are asked to familiarise themselves with the fire evacuation procedures when they arrive.

Relevant health and safety notices, and evacuation procedures are displayed in both Nicholson House and Westward House.  

All HEFCE staff and visitors should follow any decision to evacuate the building.

Access statement

HEFCE's offices are accessible for wheelchairs, with automatic doors and a ramp. There is a lift to each floor with the following dimensions: width 800mm, height 2000mm and depth 1300mm.

If visitors need a parking space, they should arrange this through the member of staff organising their meeting.
