To inform and monitor funding allocations, we use data that we receive from universities and colleges with data they submit to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) and the Data Service (through the Individualised Learner Record (ILR)) respectively.
This data is used in two main activities: the web facility and the funding and monitoring data exercise.
The web facility is a secure online tool that helps universities and colleges return accurate data to HESA or the Data Service. Institutions can also use it for planning and to increase understanding of the methodology we use.
Once we have received data from HESA or the Data Service, we carry out the funding and monitoring data exercise. We perform funding data reconciliations to monitor returns such as HESES and HEIFES. We also produce indicative funding summaries to inform funding allocations.
We have provided an overview of all funding and monitoring activities with links to all key documents, for 2011-12, 2010-11 and 2009-10.
