How it works

We generally monitor the funding returns that institutions make to us by re-creating these returns from data submitted to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) or through the Individualised Learner Record (ILR).

This process involves applying algorithms to HESA and ILR fields. These derived fields are then aggregated to reconstruct what the original student return would have looked like for an institution.

We then produce summaries and comparisons of the main elements of the re-creation against the original funding return and present these in an Excel workbook (the 'output').
