Our approach to publishing data and statistics

How the section works

As with the Publications & reports section, we provide a list of data that can be filtered by keyword or by type, theme or year of publication. 

Where possible we publish raw data as standalone files. In some cases however the data is inseparable from a publication or other content. In such cases the link will go to the relevant web page or publication. 

Note: we are still working to separate some datasets from their associated publication or web page. 

Publishing policy: open and linked data

 We are committed to the principle of publishing our data openly. Much of our data is published on an annual cycle on this web-site.  We are currently reviewing whether we have any more data which we can make freely available for public use and, where we do, we will add it over time. 

As part of this commitment to open data we are exploring options to enhance its openness. This might include publishing more of our data in: 

• non-proprietary formats, such as csv or xml
• machine-readable or ‘linked’ formats.

Data.gov.uk

The Government currently publishes much of its data through the data.gov.uk web-site. We are looking into making more of our data available through this site so it can reach a broader public audience.
