Micro-studies
As part of a programme run with Universities UK to develop a broader range of measurements for higher education's engagement with business and the community we are supporting six 'micro-studies'.
The programme
The programme aims to explore gaps in the metrics that are currently available through the higher education-business and community interaction survey. Specifically, it aims to improve the data available in the areas of:
- society, community and culture (covering public, community, and civic engagement)
- public policy
- student enterprise and/or social enterprise
- staff and student exchanges between HE and business and the community measuring benefits.
The studies
The six micro-studies are the first stage of this programme. These aim to explore metrics in one of the four areas of focus listed above. The studies are based at six separate institutions, will have limited scope, and run for a short duration.
| Institution | Metric |
|---|---|
| Institute of Education | Public policy |
| Teesside University | Enterprise and/or impact |
| University of Birmingham | Public policy |
| Leeds Metropolitan University | Society, community and culture |
| University of Liverpool | Public policy |
| University of Greenwich | Measuring impacts |
The joint HEFCE/UUK Sounding Board will consider final reports from the studies for the programme in spring 2010. The next steps will develop from these considerations.
