Lifelong Learning Networks

Lifelong Learning Networks (LLNs) are well-placed to to develop activities that respond to the workforce development needs of employers, particularly around the three core areas of their activity:

  • developing the curriculum to make learner progress easier
  • developing appropriate information, advice and guidance for vocational learners (and employers)
  • establishing progression agreements that enable learners to build a credit portfolio across institutions in the network towards a full qualification.

All LLNs engage employers to varying degrees, primarily around curriculum development. Some LLNs will see employer needs as a key area for future development, and will have structures for engaging employers and Sector Skills Councils. Such LLNs are uniquely placed, therefore, to recognise the workforce development needs of employers.

If an LLN wishes to develop a proposal for growth in student numbers co-funded by employers, they should contact their HEFCE institutional team. Alternatively, if an LLN wishes to be involved in a project led by an institution in their network, they should seek to engage with that institution.
