Teaching Capital Investment Fund

Funds for teaching are allocated though the Teaching Capital Investment Fund (TCIF) element of the CIF. The total funds allocated through this element for the financial years 2012-13 to 2016-17 are:

2012-13

£52.5 million

2013-14

£53 million

2014-15

£121.3 million

2015-16

£90 million

2016-17

£126 million

2017-18

£135 million

Total

£577.8 million

The TCIF aims to:

  • contribute to the long-term financial sustainability of an HEI’s learning and teaching and the supporting physical infrastructure
  • contribute to addressing the remaining past underinvestment in an HEI’s infrastructure for learning and teaching
  • contribute to reducing carbon emissions and improve space utilisation
  • promote collaborative partnerships between HEIs and industry
  • promote high-quality learning and teaching capability in areas of national strategic priority, including through e-learning.

In addition in ‘Arrangements for the second Capital Investment Framework’ (HEFCE Circular letter 17/2010) we identified two new areas that needed to be addressed: reduction of carbon emissions and improving space usage.
