Based on a model which has been successfully delivered by TCCE in London since 2005 and jointly funded by HEFCE and Arts Council England, the National Academics and Creative Network Project will establish an England-wide framework through which academic early career researchers and creative SMEs and micro businesses can develop mutually beneficial relationships.

The network will:

  • help overcome existing barriers to collaboration
  • offer opportunities for ECRs and creative SMEs to meet, share ideas to better understand the role of research within the creative and cultural sectors and then work together to devise appropriate research questions
  • provide seed-funding for collaborative research projects which are developed as partnerships between Early Career Researchers and creative SMEs
  • disseminate guidance for the development of better and stronger relationships between HEIs and creative SMEs in the future.

As a result of our project, creative SMEs will gain better intelligence about their work which will impact positively on their ability to develop their businesses and improve their resilience and ECRs will be able to strengthen their research impact with direct access to the professional sector, and gain from a national peer-to-peer network and professional development programme.
