This programme aims to apply the university’s research activities for the benefit of the wider Sheffield city region, building on the region’s strengths and competitive advantages. 

Programme activities

Activities include:

  • extending the region’s lead in advanced manufacturing
  • harnessing the university’s creativity in advanced engineering to unlock the potential of the region’s emerging medical devices and connected healthcare and assistive technology sectors
  • using the university’s strengths in software testing, data analytics and simulation to underpin the digital technology sectors.

Activity will include collaborative and applied research, graduate entrepreneurship and postgraduate applied studentships.

Success story

A short film has been created showcasing one of these success stories and the benefits gained by both the local SME, Ceramisys, and the PhD student.

Private sector partners include: Accenture, Alpha rooms, ARM, Boeing, Carpenter Technology Corporation, Costain, IBM, Mori Seike, Mott Macdonald, Sandvik, Spirit Aerosystems, Starrag Group, STFC Hartree centre, Thales, Wandisco and Zoo Digital.

The project has the support of the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership.
