In the first full year of the Catalyst team the group of University of Sussex students have delivered over 100 projects for 54 organisations and have proven the perceived value of a flexible, fully managed resource for growing companies. Projects have ranged from a few hours of data gathering to 20 hours a week for a year as a sales and marketing resource as per the individual client requirement.

The first team included placement year students, final year students and graduates, who agreed to join the team prior to our having engaged a single client – they were all attracted to the scheme’s potential for diversity of experience and insight into business.

The team have all gained invaluable experience, client testimonials and personal insight as well as delivering tangible results for clients. Their projects have included desk and telephone interview based market research, white paper creation, social media analysis, content creation, account management, sales support and web site design.

The new Catalyst team started to join from April 2015, we have graduates from Media, History, Law and Business along with four Masters Students – two from Physics and two from Business. They will be mentored by the outgoing team, some of whom are staying beyond their 12 month contract to become senior team members.

We received a much higher number of applications for the new team, partly through our engagement with schools but also through word of mouth and referral from existing team members.

As the Sussex Innovation Centre expands its presence, opening in East Croydon in Autumn 2015 and Brighton in Spring 2016 the Catalyst team will be delivering projects across all sites, continuing to offer what we believe is a unique, risk free way to employ students/ recent graduates.
