Many of HEFCE's functions will be continued by the Office for Students, the new regulator of higher education in England, and Research England, the new council within UK Research and Innovation.

Upcoming events

September - October 2017: HEIFES17 beginners and refresher seminar

London - 28 September, Bristol  - 3 October, and Manchester - 12 October.

These seminars are intended for people who will be completing HEIFES17, those responsible for verifying the data, and people looking to gain an understanding of the changes for 2017-18. Please note there is no charge for attending a seminar.

The seminars will provide an overview of HEFCE funding and links to data, how to complete your HEIFES17 survey for different students, definitions used and the process of verifying the data. There will be interactive sessions on completing the survey and opportunities to ask questions throughout the day.

4 July 2017: Unistats training webinar

HEFCE ran a guidance webinar on 4 July 2017. Video and slides from the event are available from the link above. 

4 May and 9 May 2017: HEFCE training on HE in ILR and Unistats data

Both events included two sessions.

  • How HEFCE uses HE data in the ILR and how to get it right

  • Unistats training (previously KIS) 

27 September, 4 October and 11 October 2016: HEIFES16 beginners and refresher seminar: HEIFES tables and guidance for 2016-17

These seminars were intended for people completing HEIFES16. 

Topics included:

  • HEFCE funding and how it is calculated from data

  • funding rules and definitions

  • completing the tables

  • data verification timescales and processes.

30 June 2016: The changing HE landscape: Opportunities for FE colleges

This event, organised by HEFCE's Midlands and South Institutional team, will draw on sector case studies, panel discussions, and updates from HEFCE staff to inform FE colleges of the changing HE policy landscape. Presentations from the event will be available here shortly.

May 2016: Localism and higher skills: Opportunities for HE in FE in the North 

This event provided a forum for colleges delivering higher education across the North to consider opportunities around higher level skills and the localism agenda.  

April 2016: Changing policy landscapes: Opportunities for HE in FE 

This event provided a forum for attendees to consider the implications and strategic opportunities of a changing HE policy landscape, with a particular focus on HE in FE.

July 2015: Opportunities for further education colleges in higher education

This event was designed for further education colleges (FECs) in the Midlands and South region. It looked at opportunities for colleges in higher education after the general election.

June 2015: Publicly funded colleges orientation event

This event was designed to help delegates from publicly funded colleges on key regulatory, funding and policy issues for HEFCE-funded colleges.
