HEFCE closed at the end of March 2018. The information on this website is historical and is no longer maintained.

Many of HEFCE's functions will be continued by the Office for Students, the new regulator of higher education in England, and Research England, the new council within UK Research and Innovation.

The HEFCE domain - www.hefce.ac.uk - will continue to function until September 2018. At this point we will close the site entirely and all its information will only be available from the National Web Archive.

What is the knowledge exchange framework?

The framework is steered by a university expert group, chaired by Professor Trevor McMillan, the Vice-Chancellor of Keele.

The Government has asked HEFCE to develop and support the framework, working closely with universities.

The framework is endorsed by main higher education stakeholders – Universities UK, PraxisUnico and AURIL, as well as higher education, research and innovation funders – HEFCE, Research Councils UK and Innovate UK.

The portal is under development and links to communities of practice. Their materials will be added, under the direction of the steering group.

The steering group will also oversee deeper reviews of good practice in specific areas of KE practice from time to time. We will add this good practice to the site.
