Progress of CCF so far

‘Higher Education Innovation Funding: Connecting Capability Fund’ (HEFCE 2017/03) detailed the overall policies, objectives and methods for the allocation of an additional £100 million to incentivise university collaboration in research commercialisation. This is to contribute to the delivery of the Government’s Industrial Strategy, based on established Higher Education Innovation Funding (HEIF) methods.

We allocated £15 million in 2017-18 from the CCF by formula. All HEIs with a 2017-18 main HEIF allocation are receiving a 10 per cent addition from the CCF, to be used by the end of March 2018.

Up to £85 million, to be used by March 2021, is being allocated in the two bidding round competitions. HEFCE 2017/03 invited HEIs to submit first round bids, for allocation of up to £20 million, by 10 July 2017. First round awards will be announced in autumn 2017. Up to £65 million is being allocated in this second round, with awards confirmed early in 2018.

A steering group has been established to oversee development of the competitive projects element of the fund. See the steering group membership list.
