Online learning issues for discussion
The Online Learning Task Force invites comments.
Enhancement
We aim to support universities and colleges to maintain excellence and find continuing ways to improve the learning environment. This work is vital to meet student expectations, the challenges of global competition, and the increasing diversity of the student population.
Funding enhancement
We provide funds directly to institutions to support this agenda, by means of the Teaching Enhancement and Student Success allocation, and through our Teaching Quality Enhancement Fund (TQEF) which supports the Higher Education Academy (HEA), and funds the Centres for Excellence in Learning and Teaching and the National Teaching Fellowship Scheme. Among other things the HEA is responsible for the UK Professional Standards for Teaching.
Technology
We encourage the embedding of technology-enhanced learning across the sector. Our partners in using technology to enhance learning are the HEA and the Joint Information Systems Committee, who help institutions achieve their aims and objectives for making best use of technology to support student learning. We have recently established an Online Learning Task Force, to help the UK HE sector maintain and extend its position as a world leader in online technology.
Skills and employability
The Council also supports work to promote skills and employability among higher education students. We encourage students to engage with their studies and the educational environment in which they find themselves through support for work on student engagement.
