TRAC(T) Guidance

We have developed guidance for the costing framework for teaching. This enables higher education institutions (HEIs) to report consistent data on the full costs of their HEFCE-fundable teaching in the HESA academic cost centres where they have provision. All HEIs in England and Northern Ireland are required to submit TRAC(T) data for 2008-09 by 26 February 2010.

This guidance includes an overview for senior managers and stakeholders. The TRAC for Teaching Steering Group also oversaw the development of an advice note for HEIs considering whether to undertake course costing and the range of approaches they could use.

November 2008 Update

We issued a TRAC(T) update in November 2008. The update does not change the guidance issued in September 2006 but provides clarification in some areas following the 2008 submissions. A sample of the TRAC(T) template for 2010 reporting is available on the TRAC Guidance web pages along with a list of peer groups that will be used for the benchmarking of 2008-09 data.

TRAC(T) helpdesk

A helpdesk is available to support HEIs in England and Northern Ireland in their implementation of TRAC(T). This is provided by Melanie Burdett of JM Consulting (JMC) LLP, who can be contacted by e-mail on director@jmc1.org or tel 0117 959 3687.

HEIs in Scotland should contact Gordon Craig, Assistant Director of Further and Higher Education Funding, SFC (e-mail gcraig@sfc.ac.uk, tel 0131 313 6503) or Sarah Kirkpatrick, Senior Funding Officer, SFC (e-mail skirkpatrick@sfc.ac.uk, tel 0131 313 6613).
