PI Table T5
Table T5 in the PI publication contains a measure of the ‘efficiency’ of an institution. This is the ratio of the time we would expect a student to take to reach their end point (based on their recorded year of programme) to the time it is projected to take.
Until last year, foundation year students had their year of programme recorded in different ways by different institutions, and so the method used to calculate the efficiency tended to produce an under-estimate. We therefore introduced an adjustment for those institutions which run foundation year courses, which because of the difficulties of identifying such students tended to over-estimate the efficiency.
Last year, we placed both estimates of efficiency in the web Table T5, and used the adjusted figure (the over-estimate) in the paper document. Due to an oversight, this year we have used the unadjusted figure in the paper document, although again both values are available on the web. (See Table T5, under ‘Extra details’.)
