Equal Opportunities Research Programme

The higher education funding councils for England, Wales and Scotland have funded a major programme of research into all aspects of equal opportunities for staff working in higher education (HE). The programme consisted of seven projects, all using different methodologies to examine various aspects of the HE employment experience.

The projects were wide-ranging and much of the research was done within higher education institutions. The programme's aims were to:

  • take a holistic approach to equal opportunities research
  • lead to interventions in HE employment that measurably improve equality of opportunity and fairness for all HE staff at all levels
  • systematically identify and analyse the effects of institutional and personal behaviours on equal opportunities for staff working in HE.
