Institution-specific funding

A fundamental review of this stream of funding took place in 2015-16.

It set out to ensure that funding goes to support and enhance specialist institutions where they are providing world-leading teaching.

As part of the review, institutions provided evidence about:

  • how concentrated their provision is
  • their higher costs
  • their world-leading teaching outputs.

Proposed funding approach

The consultation concluded in February 2016. It invited comments to inform funding allocations in 2016-17.

The HEFCE Board considered the outcome of this consultation and recommendations from the review in spring 2016. The funding allocations were announced as part of the 2016-17 grant announcements in May 2016

We notified institutions of the outcome in April 2016.
