Research Grants and Awards

The Arts and Humanities Research Board (AHRB) has been newly-established by the Higher Education Funding Council for England, the British Academy, and the Department for Education in Northern Ireland, and will formally begin operations on 1 October 1998. The Board has assumed responsibility for funding advanced research and postgraduate awards in the arts and humanities.

The Chief Executive of the AHRB now invites researchers in all areas of the arts and humanities who are employed in higher education institutions in England and Northern Ireland to apply for indicative schemes of research grants and research leave awards, to be taken up in the academic years 1998-99 and 1999-2000.

Researchers are invited to apply in three initial rounds this calendar year, which are designed to accommodate applicants who may be at different stages in the preparation of proposals, and who may intend to take up awards at different dates. The closing dates for receipt of applications to these initial rounds are 30 September, 30 November and 31 December 1998.

Full details of indicative schemes and application forms are available here or by writing to the Chief Executive of the AHRB, c/o 10 Carlton House Terrace, London SW1Y 5AH, telephone 0171 969 5200.
