In January 2000 a network of subject centres will be launched to promote high quality learning and teaching practices in universities and colleges throughout the UK.

HEFCE adds a further £50 million to the Joint Infrastructure Fund
The HEFCE has added a further £50 million to its contribution to the Joint Infrastructure Fund (JIF), making £150 million in all over 1999-2000 to 2001-02. This brings the total of the Fund to £750 million, of which £300 million is from the Wellcome Trust and £450 million from public funding through the HEFCE and the Department for Trade and Industry (DTI).
