Performance indicators provide yardstick for improving participation
The latest Performance Indicators for the sector were published today (19 December 2001), using data for 1998-99 and 1999-2000. The figures are broadly similar to those released last year for 1997-98 and 1998-99.

RAE results confirm international excellence of UK research
The results of the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise published today (14 December 2001) confirm that universities and colleges in the United Kingdom are international leaders in delivering world-class research. More than half (55 per cent) of research staff now work in departments which contain work of international excellence.

Higher Education funding for 2002-2003 and 2003-04
The Secretary of State for Education and Skills has set out the resources and priorities for higher education for 2002-03 and 2003-04. The funding for 2003-04 is subject to the outcome of the 2002 Spending Review.
As yet the split in funding between HEFCE and the Teacher Training Agency has not been agreed. When final figures are available we will announce them on our web site and make a statement.

Employment performance indicators show only 6 per cent of graduates are unemployed

Quality review and sampling - Joint statement from the HEFCE, Universities UK and SCOP
Following last week's Government announcement on sampling within the new method for quality review in higher education, the HEFCE, Universities UK and SCOP have today issued a joint statement setting out their position on the implementation of sampling and the issues to be addressed. They have invited the QAA to advise on the most effective way of taking forward the approach identified.
