Understanding and implementing the higher education public information and external quality assurance agenda

Two workshop-based events on 7 and 24 May 2013 for further education colleges

Organised by HEFCE, the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) and the Association of Colleges (AoC), these events aim to inform the further education sector about the current public-information agenda and the development of the QAA Quality Code.

Each event will address both these topics in separate sessions.

Public information about higher education (HE)

Presenters: Beth Steiner (HEFCE) and Judith Foreman (Wakefield College)

The first session will offer delegates the chance to learn more about the main channels of public information in higher education. These will include the:

  • National Student Survey (NSS)
  • Key Information Set/Unistats web-site
  • Higher Education Achievement Record
  • HE Student charters
  • Provision of institutional information.

The QAA Quality Code

Presenters: Ian Welch (QAA) and Clive Turner (City College Norwich)

The second session will provide a thorough update on the revision of the QAA Academic Infrastructure, re-named the Quality Code. This is the starting point for institutions to design their respective policies for maintaining academic standards and quality.

This session will cover:

  • setting and maintaining threshold academic standards
  • assuring and enhancing academic quality
  • information about higher education provision.

The sessions will combine information-sharing and interactive workshops with opportunities to discuss and exchange experiences.

The specialist sessions will be facilitated by College HE practitioners and QAA and HEFCE officers.

Who should attend?

These seminars are aimed at managers and senior practitioners within further education colleges.

Please note that places are limited, and we would therefore like to limit places to one representative from each institution.
