HEFCE welcomes Admissions to Higher Education Steering Group recommendations

The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) welcomes the report by Professor Steven Schwartz following the review into admissions to higher education institutions.

Commenting on the recommendations, John Rushforth, HEFCE Director for Widening Participation, said: 'The report offers a thorough and well thought out set of proposals. We particularly welcome the acknowledgement in the report that admissions are a matter for universities and colleges themselves. The recommendations are not too prescriptive and allow HEIs freedom to take account of a wide range of issues and backgrounds (not just A-levels) and to develop innovative local practice. We believe the recommendations will lead to fairer and more transparent admissions processes which is good news for students'.

The report: 'Fair admissions to higher education' is available on the Admissions to Higher Education Review web-site
