HEFCE announced today allocations for each higher education institution (HEI) under the fourth round of the Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF 4).
Funding to the HE sector under HEIF 4 will rise to £150 million by 2010-11, as announced in October 2007. This represents an increase of 30 per cent in total HEIF funding from the last year of round 3, and an 80 per cent increase in the formula funding(note 1). The vast majority of HEIs will see an increase in their HEIF funding, including 36 HEIs who will receive the maximum allocation, rising to £1.9 million by 2010-11. The funding, allocated by formula, is for the three years 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11.
HEIF 4 is a joint initiative by HEFCE and the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills. It is designed to support and develop a broad range of knowledge transfer activities which result in economic and social benefit to the UK.
Each allocation is subject to HEFCE receiving and accepting a satisfactory institutional strategy. Strategies should be submitted by 14 April 2008.
