Call to involve disabled people in HEFCE policy making

24 June 2008

HEFCE wishes to invite people with disabilities and those in higher education who support them to become involved in HEFCE policy making over the next 12 months. Anyone wishing to do so is invited to express their interest by 1 August 2008.

These individuals will form a database of contacts with whom HEFCE will consult when developing and implementing policies. Their involvement will range from giving feedback to consultations, contributing to impact assessments of policies, to attending a project steering group. This would be a one-year commitment requiring little to no travel.

This move is part of a commitment to ensure that HEFCE's polices and practices promote and meet the needs of disabled people. It takes place at a time when HEFCE is developing its next strategic plan, and seeks to drive forward a culture change in the area of disability equality across the higher education sector.
