New Chair of JANET(UK) appointed

15 May 2008

HEFCE announced today the appointment of Roger McClure as Chair of JANET(UK), the organisation that supports the UK's academic digital network. He will take up the appointment on 1 August, succeeding Professor Geoff Peters.

Mr McClure has recently retired from the post of Chief Executive of the Scottish Funding Council to take on a portfolio of board-level responsibilities. A graduate of the University of Cambridge, he has a rich understanding of research and the diverse educational landscape of the UK. His knowledge of the stakeholder community - whether institutions, funding councils or Government - provides him with a unique insight into the challenges and needs of this important sector.

Professor David Eastwood, Chief Executive of HEFCE, said:

'The digital network provided by JANET(UK) is crucial to the university, college, schools and research sectors, and is a genuinely world-leading facility. I am delighted by Roger McClure's appointment and confident that he will use his wide knowledge of higher education and the different stakeholders to help take JANET(UK) forward as it meets the challenges for all its users.'

Further information is available on the JANET(UK) web-site.
