HEFCE welcomes 'Higher Ambitions – The future of universities in a knowledge economy' published today by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.
Sir Alan Langlands, Chief Executive of HEFCE, said:
'We are pleased that this new framework recognises the crucial role that higher education and research have in delivering the country's twin aims of a vibrant economy and a just society. The key themes of opportunity, excellence and impact build on the achievements of universities and colleges in recent years and provide a strong platform for further progress.
'HEFCE will continue to work closely with universities, colleges and other partners to implement the main tenets of the framework: respecting the fundamentals of higher education; delivering the knowledge and high level skills required to help the professions, businesses and public services to innovate and prosper; and promoting research excellence across a wide range of academic disciplines.'
