Former Economic Secretary to the Treasury and Science Minister Ian Pearson has been appointed Chair of the National Higher Education STEM Programme Advisory Forum.

The National Higher Education STEM Programme works in partnership with higher education institutions, professional bodies and learned societies in England and Wales. It builds on existing achievements and encourages new approaches to recruiting students and delivering programmes of study within the science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines. The programme also aims to make a significant contribution to meeting the skills needs of local economies.

The three-year £21 million programme is funded by the Higher Education Funding Councils for England and Wales and hosted by the University of Birmingham.
