Dear colleague
HEFCE/LSC Partnerships for Progression: results of consultation
This letter presents the results of the consultation about the Partnerships for Progression (P4P) proposals which were issued in December 2001 by the HEFCE and the Learning and Skills Council (LSC).
The consultation was held between December 2001 and March 2002 to seek views on how best to achieve the Government's higher education target. This states that 50 per cent of those aged between 18 and 30 should have the opportunity to benefit from higher education by 2010. We received 354 responses from colleagues in further education, higher education, employers, regional bodies and education services. Respondents generally welcomed the proposals, and 94 per cent supported the initiative.
Respondents raised a number of issues. In particular they commented on the targeted age groups of the initiative, the regional, sub-regional and local approach of activity, and the methods for setting targets.
No action is required in response to this letter. We hope to be able to announce detailed implementation plans for P4P in the autumn. In the interim, we urge all partners in the regions to continue to engage fully with P4P in order to contribute to our campaign to increase and widen participation.
Yours sincerely
Sir Howard Newby John Harwood
