Student support funding

Allocations for higher education institutions 2002-03 and monitoring return for 2001-02

Funds of £92 million are available for student support in 2002-03. We allocate this to higher education institutions on behalf of the Department for Education and Skills. This publication sets out final allocations for 2002-03, and guidance for completing the return to monitor use of student support funding in 2001-02. It supplements the information published in March in HEFCE 02/12.

Executive summary

Purpose

1.    This publication supplements HEFCE 02/12 'Student support funding for higher education institutions 2002-03'. It sets out:

  • final allocations for Hardship/Bursary funding and administrative costs for 2002-03 (Annex A), including administrative costs funding
  • guidance notes for completion of the electronic monitoring return (Annex B)
  • sample 2001-02 monitoring return (Annex C)
  • allocation method for Hardship/Bursary funding (Annex D).

Key points

2.    The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) has made available a total of £91,115,500 for student support funding in 2002-03. We allocate this on behalf of the DfES.
