This guide aims to help institutions develop and implement their human resources (HR) strategies. It provides advice and examples of good practice in key areas, in response to requests from institutions. The report supplements earlier guidance on developing HR strategies (HEFCE 02/14).

Executive summary

Purpose

1.    This guide aims to help institutions develop and implement their human resources (HR) strategies. It provides advice and examples of good practice in key areas.

Key points

2.    In November 2000 the Government announced funding to improve the management of HR in higher education. Institutions submitted strategies, in two stages, over the following two years (see HEFCE 01/16 and HEFCE 02/09).

3.    We published guidance on developing HR strategies in March 2002 (HEFCE 02/14). This guidance supplements the earlier document, and focuses on implementing strategies.
