Executive summary

Purpose

1.    This is our fourth and final report on our Restructuring and Collaboration Fund (R&CF). It summarises the progress of projects funded through the R&CF that had received funding between January 2001 and December 2002. It includes contact details to obtain further information on individual projects.

2.    On 19 December 2002 the HEFCE Board agreed to formally close the current R&CF with effect from 31 December 2002. It has been replaced by a new Strategic Development Fund (SDF), from April 2003, which will link to and support the HEFCE's strategic priorities more directly. HEFCE 2003/28 provides further information.

3.    Where an institution has been working with HEFCE regional consultants before 31 December 2002 to put a bid together it will still have the opportunity to bid under the previous R&CF criteria. Where these bids do not fit R&CF criteria, as long as they meet the criteria for the SDF, institutions will have the opportunity to bid for funding from the SDF. However, there is no guarantee that such a project will be approved.
