Executive summary
Purpose
1. This document describes the allocation and funding process for two sources of funding to support institutions in improving the quality of their learning and teaching. The institutional strand of the existing Teaching Quality Enhancement Fund (TQEF) had been due to finish in 2005, but is now being extended for one year. We are also allocating additional funds for supporting professional standards.
Key points
2. The extended 2005-06 allocation of TQEF funding totals £17 million. To receive their allocations, higher education institutions (HEIs) should submit an action plan for activities in 2005-06 based on their existing learning and teaching strategy.
3. The extra funds for supporting professional standards will be £17 million a year for two years, 2004-05 and 2005-06. To receive their allocations, institutions should submit an appendix to their existing learning and teaching strategy, and action plans based on that appendix for each year of funding.
4. Further education colleges that are directly funded by HEFCE for the higher education provision they deliver will receive funding under both these streams through the HE in FE development fund. Details will be published later this year.
Action required
5. Institutional submissions should be sent to HEFCE to arrive by midday on Friday 16 July 2004.
