Professor David Eastwood introduces 'Higher Education in England'
Transcript
Higher education in England has never been more important. It's important to students and we have an unprecedented number of students benefiting from higher education. It's important because of the quality and range of the research base, which helps drive both the economy and the knowledge society that we live in. And it's important too because of the enormous and wide-ranging contributions universities and colleges make to their communities, to their cities, to their towns, and to their regions.
'Higher Education in England' is a publication which explores the contribution higher education is making. In the last chapter of 'Higher Education in England' we look to the future, and as part of that we have drawn together a small group of people – Vice-Chancellors, members of the board, and funders of research – to speculate on the future of higher education and to offer critical commentaries on where higher education now stands.
We hope that you will enjoy and be challenged by this conversation. We hope that you find the publication valuable. And we hope that you will contribute to the continuing debate on higher education by sending us your comments. Thank you.
