Appointment, retention and promotion of academic staff in higher education

There have been many developments in this area since the research was carried out in 2001, particularly legislative changes. These impinge as much on higher education institutions as on any other employer, and will have beneficial effects on those areas that are the focus of much of the report. The following is a brief update, summarising the key developments.
