Statistics for equal opportunities in higher education

Summary
This report considers the availability and use of statistics on discrimination and equality of employment opportunity in the higher education sector, for both academic and non-academic staff. It draws on a detailed study of the Higher Education Statistics Agency web-site and documentation, and a range of other statistical sources, plus a survey of institutions. The survey asked institutions about data collection, data use and what data would be useful to them when monitoring their employment practice, to help set and monitor targets for equality of opportunity.
The study is part of a wider equal opportunities research programme, commissioned by the funding councils for England, Scotland and Wales.
